Long
Rechte der Natur e.V. (Rights of Nature) works to give rivers, forests and ecosystems in Germany rights of their own. The association brings together young lawyers and other committed people who believe in the power of law to drive positive change. From Germany, it coordinates the European Citizens’ Initiative for the rights of nature, backed by organisations and citizens from 14 EU countries. The initiative calls for an EU directive that recognises ecosystems as holders of rights instead of property, and is collecting a million signatures for it until 13 October 2027. The association is also a partner of the Rights of the Spree petition, which wants a Spree Rights Act to give the river rights of its own and a voice in court. More at rechte-der-natur.org.
